Gymnastics events not to be missed

The rhythmic gymnastics competition at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games has come to a successful conclusion.

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Rhythmic gymnastics not only requires athletes to have superb skills and physical fitness, but also needs to integrate music and themes in the performance, showing a unique artistic beauty. This combination has made rhythmic gymnastics one of the highest-profile sports in the Olympics.

Combination of Gymnastics and Dance

In the modern gymnastics competition, adding dance elements has become a trend. This is not only for the enjoyment of the game, but also for the enhancement of the artistic expression of the athletes themselves. For example, in floor exercises, athletes often incorporate beautiful dancing, smooth movements and expressive expressions, which makes the competition process more vivid and infectious.

Whether they are gymnasts or dancers, they need to continuously improve their artistic literacy while pursuing technological breakthroughs. Knowing and appreciating many art forms, such as music, drama and painting, can help them better understand the themes, emotions and styles of their work, thereby improving their expressiveness and technique.

About Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a type of sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, artistry and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups. Gymnastics evolved from exercises used by the ancient Greeks that included skills for mounting and dismounting a horse, and from circus performance skills.

The most common form of competitive gymnastics is artistic gymnastics (AG); for women, the events include floor, vault, uneven bars, and balance beam; for men, besides floor and vault, it includes rings, pommel horse, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.

The governing body for competition in gymnastics throughout the world is the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). Eight sports are governed by the FIG, including gymnastics for all, men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampolining (including double mini-trampoline), tumbling, acrobatic, aerobic, and parkour.

Participants in gymnastics-related sports include young children, recreational-level athletes, and competitive athletes at all skill levels.
